Practice-XL Installation Instructions:

  1. Do not install the lock (the green USB attachment) during the installation.
  2. Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  3. The installation process should start automatically after few seconds.
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.

 
If the installation does not start automatically after 1 minute:

  1. From the “Start” menu click on the “My Computer” icon.
  2. In the “My Computer” window double click on the “D drive” or the drive name for your CD- ROM drive.
  3. In the “D drive” window double click on the “Setup” file (the gray icon).
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.


After installation:

  1. Insert the lock into one of your computers USB connections.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. You will be prompted that a new hardware has been found.
  4. Follow on screen instructions to install the lock (new hardware found).
  5. Now you are ready to use the program.

 
Starting the program:

  1. You can use the shortcut on the Desktop to start the program.
  2. Also you can click on the “Start” menu, go to the programs section and find “Dentistry21” section and click on the “Practice-XL” shortcut to start the program.
  3. Double click on the program shortcut to start.
  4. A Windows Explorer window will open saying “Starting Practice-XL 4.0”
  5. Wait until the second window asking the password opens.
  6. If you have “Popup blocker” activated, you need to unable it or turn it off for this program to function normally.
  7. You can disable your popup blocker on your browser using this option on the tool bar. Also sometimes this option is located in the Tools section of your Internet Explorer.
  8. After disabling your popup blocker you can restart the program.
  9. You will be asked to enter your password.
  10.  Enter the password (sent to you in the package) and the program will start.
  11.  The first thing you should do is to go to the “Profile” section of the program and complete your information and change your password if you wish.
  12.  If you encounter any problems, please check the trouble shooting page that is enclosed with this package.

Trouble Shooting:

 The installation does not start by itself:

  1. Click “Start” on the windows taskbar.
  2. Click “Run”
  3. In this box, type: “d:\setup.exe” where d is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  4. Click OK and follow the instructions.

 

Program starts but the frames do not look normal:

  1. You need to have “Internet Explorer” 6.0 or higher for a normal view of the program windows.
  2. If your Internet explorer version is older you can go to
  3. http://www.microsoft.com/ click on the Downloads option to your left and choose the “internet Explorer 6.0” .
  4. Follow the on screen instructions to download and install the “Internet Explorer 6.0” After restarting your computer the “Practice-XL” should function normally. 


The lock is inserted but I get an error message saying “The lock is not found”.

  1. Make sure the lock in inserted into your computer’s USB connection correctly.
  2. Make sure the lock driver is installed.
  3. If you restart your computer, you should be prompted to install a new hardware found. If you do, follow the instructions to install the USB lock.
  4. After installing the lock try to login again by re-entering your password. The program should find the lock this time.

When starting the program the first window opens but then it disappears and nothing happens. (A black window appears)

  1. Make sure you have disabled or turned off your ‘Pop-up Blocker”. Depending on the system you use you can find this option in different places. For example later versions of Internet Explorers have this option in the “Tools” section which you can find on the top tool bar.
  2. If you are using an ISP like AOL, that option is usually located on their toolbar. After disabling the pop-up blocker for the Practice-XL program, start the program again the password window should appear.

 
After starting the program I get the message of “Page not found”.

Depending on the speed of your computer you may get this message from time to time. If you do, just press the F5 button on your keyboard or click on the “Refresh” button on the top of the open windows, the program should start.
